About Me
Dr Ivie Ehanmo is an energy law and regulation specialist with over 17 years’ experience across Sub-Saharan Africa, the UK, and the EU. Her work focuses on the legal and institutional architecture of investment-ready electricity markets and the governance of the global energy transition. Dr. Ehanmo’s energy sector experience sits at the intersection of electricity regulation, climate law, and energy justice, with particular emphasis on the legal frameworks required to support sustainable and inclusive energy access, just energy transitions and credible power sector reform.
She combines academic scholarship with international advisory, regulatory practice, policy engagement and capacity-building work, supporting governments, international organisations, and private sector actors on regulatory governance, electricity market reform, and clean energy policy frameworks. Her work examines how law, institutions, and regulatory design shape both the effectiveness of energy transitions based on investment outcomes and the equitable distribution of energy access in emerging and developing energy systems.
Dr Ehanmo is the Founder of the Electricity Lawyer, an initiative dedicated to advancing understanding of electricity law, regulation, and governance in the evolving power sector; by providing cutting-edge, data-driven legal, and regulatory innovative advisory solutions; and policy engagement on electricity market regulation, regulatory reform, and climate law, etc. Dr. Ehanmo has advised leading global institutions including the World Bank, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), German Agency for International Cooperation (GiZ), US Department of State (DOS)- Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UK-FCDO), etc., and has contributed to pioneering initiatives on green hydrogen, CCUS, and electricity market reforms. She also sits on the boards of several energy companies in non-executive and advisory capacities and is an active member of the AIEN Hydrogen, Renewable Fuels and CCUS Taskforces.
She is also the Global Academy Director of Electricity Lawyer Academy; where she leads initiatives focused on strengthening legal and regulatory capacity within the global energy transition. Through the Electricity Lawyer Academy, she leads research-informed training and professional development programmes designed to equip lawyers, policymakers, and practitioners with the legal and regulatory expertise required to navigate modern electricity markets and rapidly evolving power sectors, in advancing energy access and sustainability. She contributes to international conversations on how law and institutions can support credible, equitable and investment-ready energy transitions.
Dr. Ehanmo holds a PhD in Energy Law and Regulation from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee (UK), and contributes to international discussions on electricity market governance, climate policy, and energy justice through research, advisory work, and professional training. She has contributed to academic and policy scholarship on electricity markets, climate governance, and carbon trading frameworks, and her work has been published in leading academic volumes and policy platforms. Through her work, she continues to advance dialogue on energy justice, regulatory reform, and credible pathways to universal energy access.
